SB Energy (SoftBank Group)
SB Energy, also known as SB Energy Global, is a multinational renewable energy corporation operating in India, the United States, and Europe. The company was formed in 2015 as a subsidiary of Japanese multinational conglomerate SoftBank Group Corp. As of October 2019, SB Energy has 7.2 gigawatts (GW) of contracted renewable energy projects globally, of which over 1.5 GW are operational. Additionally, SB Energy has made investments in renewable technology companies, including battery company ESS, Inc. Following the Fukushima nuclear disaster in 2011, SoftBank Group Corp. Chairman Masayoshi Son invested in several utility-scale solar projects in Japan under that country�s feed-in-tariff scheme. Those projects remain under management by SB Energy Corp Japan. Building on this foundation, in 2015, SoftBank founded a new entity, SB Energy, led by CEO Raman Nanda to develop renewable energy projects globally. As of October 2019, SB Energy has developed 10 utility-scale renewable energy projects in India (8 solar, 1 wind, 1 hybrid), totaling 5.5 GW, of which more than 1.5 GW are operational. SB Energy entered the United States energy market in 2019 by acquiring 5 contracted utility-scale solar projects from Intersect Power, increasing its contracted development pipeline by 1.7GW to a total of 7.2GW. SB Energy and Intersect Power previously partnered to develop the five projects, and are developing an additional 2.9GW of early- to mid-stage projects in California and Texas.
