National Institute of Clean-and-Low-Carbon Energy

Fast economic growth in China has produced great achievements in all sectors, however with a lot of sacrifice on natural resources and the environment. China is today one of the largest energy users in the world generating a lot of emissions such as sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, particulates, Hg and carbon dioxide. To continue with the economy growth while being more 'clean' and 'low carbon', the National Institute of Clean-And-Low-Carbon Energy (NICE) has been established in December of 2009. NICE is a national research institute focused on clean energy research and commercialization which is funded by the Shenhua Group, an integrated energy conglomerate with businesses including coal mining, power, railway, coal to liquids, etc., and it is the largest coal company in the world.
